Our Client is currently seeking a Vice President of Human Resources for their location in Dallas, TX.  The VP of HR will be responsible to develop and implement HR programs across the organization, especially in the areas of benefits, workers compensation, training, recruiting and regulatory compliance. The VP of HR will also be tasked with designing and implementing an effective talent management program that will improve methods in attracting, retaining, and training the locations workforce, partnering with peers on the executive leadership team to implement strategic HR initiatives and guide leaders on making tough employee decisions, implement a strategic performance management program, maintain a culture of excellence and ensure that the company has cost effective benefits.

Responsibilities of the VP of HR:

  • Formulates and recommends Human Resources policies and objectives for the entire company
  • Acts as the main point of contact for all union activity, for the interpretation of collective bargaining agreements, the grievance process and any business relations with the local union representation.
  • Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting Human Resources function (e.g., OSHA, EEO, ERISA, AAP, Wage & Hour). Monitors exposure of the company. Directs the preparation of information requested or required for compliance. Approves all information submitted. Acts as primary contact with labor counsel and outside government agencies.
  • Protects interests of employees and the company in accordance with company Human Resources policies and governmental laws and regulations. Approves recommendations for terminations. Reviews employee appeals through complaint procedure.
  • Directs a process of organizational planning that evaluates structure, job design, and manpower forecasting throughout the company. Coordinates activities across division lines. Evaluates plans and changes to plans. Makes recommendations to senior management.
  • Directs a process of organizational development that primarily addresses succession planning throughout the company. Coordinates activities across division lines. Evaluates plans and changes to plans. Makes recommendations to senior management.
  • Establishes wage and salary structure, pay policies, performance appraisal programs, employee benefit programs and services, and company safety and health programs. Monitors for effectiveness and cost containments.
  • Establishes standard recruiting and placement practices and procedures. Reviews variances to schedules. Interviews executive-level candidates.
  • Establishes in-house management training programs that address company needs.(e.g., Performance Appraisal, Interviewing).
  • Defines all Human Resources programs, and authority/responsibility of Human Resources and line management within those programs. Provides necessary education and materials to line management and employees—workshops, manuals, employee handbooks, standardized reports.
  • Oversees implementation of programs through Human Resources staff. Monitors administration to standards.  Identifies opportunities and resolves discrepancies.
  • Works closely with corporate to coordinate use of Human Resources consultants, insurance brokers, insurance carriers, pension administrators, training specialists, labor counsel, and other outside sources when required.
  • Conducts a continuing study of all Human Resources policies, programs, and practices to keep corporate HR management informed of new developments.
  • Directs the preparation and maintenance of such reports as are necessary to carry out functions of department. Prepares periodic reports to corporate management, as necessary or requested.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • 15 years of HR Generalist Experience – 10 of those being in the Hospitality industry
  • Minimum of 3 of the most recent years of experience as the top HR executive
  • Experience in an Union environment
  • Experience supporting a highly diverse workforce of at least 1500 individuals
  • Experience negotiating and interpreting collective bargaining agreements
  • Ability and desire to function as an integral part of the Management Team
  • Excellent organizational, communication, problem-solving, and computer skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills maintaining positive relationships with all levels of the organization
  • Experience within a high growth organization a plus!
